Rising to 5,895 meters (19,341 ft) above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and the world’s tallest free-standing mountain. Its snow-capped summit towering over the savannah is one of the most iconic sights in Tanzania — and climbing it is one of the greatest adventures on Earth.
Known locally as “Kipoo” by the Chaga people, Kilimanjaro is both a natural wonder and a cultural landmark. Its slopes take you on a climatic journey from the tropics to the Arctic, passing through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the icy glaciers at the summit.
